About Us
Alanur works within the community through three areas of services:
Professional development. Alanur partners with senior mentors to engage wellness professionals in developing their capacity for integrating faith and practice.
Community wellness programming. Alanur seeks to work directly with community members to increase their knowledge and skills in support of their personal, family and community wellness.
Faith-based counseling. Alanur is engaging a multi-disciplinary team of counselors to offer services.
Alanur seeks to increase the wellness culture in Muslim communities based in the understanding that Islam definitionally is a comprehensive wellness program. The Muslim tradition contains within it rich resources for healing, growth and protection from harm. The observations and knowledge of modern science should be naturally integrated into our understandings of the human condition. “Salam,” which has the same linguistic root as “Islam,” means to be well and without harm. Giving “salams” is an obligation upon believers and a prayer for wellbeing. Sincerity necessitates that working towards the wellness of our community is obligatory. We seek to recenter the salam in Islam.
Our orientation to wellness is based in the recognition of four basic components of a human being: the heart, the body, the spirit and the soul. Our methodologies for pursuing wellness fall into four general categories: knowledge, spiritual practice, companionship and service.
